What are you doing tomorrow Wednesday, September 27 2017?

The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) Lagos Chapter, will be organizing an advocacy program on the deadly disease, Rabies to commemorate the World Rabies Day coming up on September 28, 2017.

Every year, RABIES kills 59,000 persons every year especially children and young adults. This statistics is believed to be highly under-reported because Rabies is a Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) that is mostly found in poverty-stricken marginalized and under-deserved communities. It has been eradicated in most developed countries but the disease is still present in some developing and under-developed countries including Nigeria. In Nigeria, rabies has been reported in both in urban and rural areas, usually with 100% case fatality rate – This means that all people that have been diagnosed with rabies have actually died from the disease in Nigeria.

However, the good news is that the disease is highly preventable both in animals and humans if only certain steps are followed. Therefore, this advocacy program with the theme “Together Against Rabies” is organized to teach us how to protect ourselves and our animals (especially dogs and cats) from this fatally deadly disease. You also have the opportunity to bring your animals (dogs and cats) for free vaccination as provided by qualified veterinarians at the event.

Venue: NECA Hall opp. African shrine, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos

Time: 11 am

Together, let us put an end to the needless deaths caused by rabies disease
